Bird Watching at the Egret Hidden Sanctuary

Bird Watching at the Hidden Sanctuary

Sacnangan, Pilar, Sorsogon

The Great White Egrets

Amazing birds!  I cannot forget how thousands of white birds  (Egrets) show off their flying skills as if trained to perform a show in front of the public.  I feel so proud having witnessed their performance in their hidden sanctuary at Sacnangan, Pilar, Sorsogon, on top of the mangroves at Malbog river bank that sustained and enhances the bio-diversity of life in that area. It was a moment that one cannot help but admire the beauty and magnificence of God's creation.

According to the residents of the barangay, the birds were seen in that area for  more than seven years already.  These great white Egrets were migratory birds that can be seen the whole year round.  As observed., however,  December to May has the most number Egrets in the area.  According to the study conducted by the representatives of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, said migratory birds come to the area due to the abundance of food. They claimed  that said birds originated from other countries, and migrated to evade the cold season in their origin.

How to get there?

There are two ways to get there.  By boat, via river cruise and by land.  However, it is best to pass through LGU Pilar Tourism Center, located at the Pilar Municipal Port.  It is best to hire a guide to maximize the adventure.

Enjoy Life, Live to the fullest!

Truly,  life is enriched by many good people around us and the gift of nature. Many times, however, we took for granted the many good things that happened in our lives because of our tight schedule and various things that occupy our mind. While walking in the streets, going to our home or work, our mind is pre-occupied with our “to dos” for the day, a problem to solve, an errand to accomplish,
or targets for the day.

White Water Tubing, An Extreme Adventure

White water tubing is considered as an extreme adventure. It is the newest tourist attraction in the province of Albay. With this event, adrenalin rush, maintaining body balance while riding with the rapidly falling water amidst the boulders, holding tightly with the ropes fastened to the tube, particularly when passing a series of rapids is experienced. Indeed, it is an exciting and challenging activity. It’s a challenge not only to one’s stamina but also  to one’s sense of adventure as well.

Vera Falls, one of nature’s wonder

Many years ago, I heard about the presence of a beautiful falls, which is considered as a  hidden treasure of Malinao, Albay.  It’s one of the favorite place of Back packers, mountaineers and adventurists.  Calendars, particularly those from Land Bank of the Philippines, often highlighted the said falls.  I became curious and wanted to see the falls myself.
